What is your ecological footprint?

Have you ever heard about  'Ecological footprints'?
.
Do you know what yours is?
.
How many planets would we need if everyone lived like you?
.
An ecological footprint measures the total amount of land and resources used, It includes your carbon footprint but it goes further.

  • Find out what your ecological footprint is by answering questions about your lifestyle. See how your choices affect the environment and whether you are living beyond the capacity of the planet!

  1. Found out that if everyone else lived like ME, we would need 2.9 planets to support global consumption. hmmm and I thought I was environmentally friendly?!

I invite you to see this documentary. It is worth it!. You will realize what we are really ignorant when we buy a product because we don’t see the effects on the environment.

Please, let’s work all together to save our marvellous planet.

Is surprising the test result of the ecological calculator. The result is that I leave a footprint of 3.8 global hectares along my life and that if everyone does the same as me would need 2.3 planets to support global consumption. Is really amazing!, Although I think the things that I had a lower effect on climate change.

Firstly because I haven't got heating or air conditioning in my home and the calculator does not allow this option.

Second, I have electricity in my house, which a part is produced by a thermal solar panel. Is this an option that does not have the calculator.

Therefore I think my ecological footprint is less than that indicated by the results of the calculator.

Finally, I consider myself a person quite worried about climate change and its effects on the planet, but I think I can make a greater effort to make my ecological footprint is smaller.

    Hi everyone!

If everyone in the world lived like me, we would need 3.3 planets to support global consumption. I don't believe it!

After doing these questions, I realized that I could change my lifestyle and reduce my carbon footprint.

    Bye.

Hello, my estimated carbon footprint is 9.6 tonnes co2 with an ecological footprint of 4.8 global hectares.
Agatha, thanks you for the documentary es very interesting.
I try to help nature but in the Canary Islands there are many doubts about recycling.
Is cheaper to burn all than recycle and get off the island.

  6. My dear folks,

    These data are interesting, indeed.
It's amazing and really good for us all to be aware of the fact that there is still a lot to be done to save the environment.
Sometimes we just don't make the effort and choose the easy way instead.
I believe and hope that, apart from improving our English we'll eventually learn how to improve our habits as far as eco-friendship is concerned…
    :-)

In my case, we would need 2.7 planets to support global consupmption with a carbon footprint of 8.9 tonnes CO2.
Nowadays, rubbish without recycling, pollution and deforestation have became really enormous problems to look afther environment. In my opinion, I think people are not used to looking afther environment.
In the first place, people do not have enough information aboun green issues. Lots of people told us they would not live to suffer climate change. Nevertheless, the weather is already changing, I am secure you have listened to from news programs on television that it was pouring in some countries, although it had never happened before. Besides, there are heavy floods more frecuently and some heatwaves which are the main cause of death in summer.
Moreover, our consumerist society produces too much rubbish, because a lot of people want to buy the latest fashion (blouse, T-shirt, suit, skirt, sweatshirt and so on) and the best technology (MP3, computer, camera, and so on). Some people look like a shopaholic person.
On the other hand, it is often said that global warming has been invented to set up new bussiness or to collect money with new taxes. Some solar pannel farms and some wind turbine farms have been built to conserve environment.
To sum up, I strongly believe we should look afther environment if we wish our grandchildren can grow up healthily. If we spent all resources in a few years, we would finish with Earth without any solution.

Despite the fact that I don’t agree with the survey’s questions, in my opinion it has been a way to think how much green I am acting in my life. In this point, I would like to share with you some notes about simple activities

First, do you switch the lights off every time to go out of a room in your house? If you don’t, you should know that having the lights on for more that three seconds spend as energy as the necessary to switch them on.
Second, do you prefer a 100% pure natural cotton clothes or 50% polyester? I can guess you choose the natural cotton. However, this is the most polluting crops. It needs lot of chemical products and pesticides to grow and large amounts of water.

In conclusion, we have not idea about all the situations that we are involved which are against green issues, and I have no idea about what may be the best solution. Anyway, I hope on one hand that scientists research more about clean energies and the protest groups, as Greenpeace, keep on putting pressure on politicians to act before it is too late.

As my result is, I think if people lived like me it should need 2.7 planets. Its amazing, isn't it?
Nowadays we are not aware about the "Ecological footprints" problems. We have to be conscience about that. So, “Do we have a correct lifestyle to improve the environment?". “How can we contribute to preserving the environment in our daily routine?”
It is necessary to know the problems, causes and consequences which threat the environment. The environment is being killed by humans.

Firstly in our routine life we have habits that damaged the environment. There are a number of things we should do: recycle sort of materials, not to buy chemicals products, save energy switching off unnecessary lights, spend less water and reduce the contamination. For example I didn't used to recycle but now I do. Also we can contribute spending less water when take a shower or washing up. So, we can change and look after the environment in our routine life.

Secondly there are more disadvantages or causes which are damage for the environment. For instance: the pollution from the factories in the big cities and from the transport. There are many factories working 24 hours every day and there are many planes flying every hour. So, the environment is being seriously injured.

In conclusion, I point out that we have to be aware how the environment is being cared by us. We must act now and do not waste time thinking. Do not think, do it!.

wowhhhhh! Such a disaster, a) carbon footprint 7.7 tonnes of CO2, b) ecological footprint 4.2 global hectares, c) we would need 2.5 planets to support global consumption!

    UNSUSTAINABLE, UNBEARABLE, UNAFFORDABLE!

No doubt solution to these problems must be achieved, fortunately they would stem from our best compromise with future and our offspring... but just a radical but NATURAL FACT: in Nature, every living population, every living species, from bacteria to upper vertebrates, undergoes cyclic demographic dynamics, thriving or decreasing... just to think about for those against all odds...

It is incredible! My carbon footprint is 10.4 tonnes CO2 and I would need 3.2 planets to support global consumption.
I believed that I was a responsible person and friendly environment but If I think about it, I could collaborate more with our planet. Sincerely, most of people including myself should be more stringent with the care of the environment.
